** NLCIL Mines I and II bag National Safety Award

Mines I of NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) has bagged the National Safety Award for three years from 2018 to 2020 under the category of lowest injury frequency rate per million cubic metre of output. Mines II has bagged the award under the category of longest accident-free period for 2020.

According to a release, the award was received by Suresh Chandra Suman, Executive Director (Mines), NLCIL, and P. Bharathidasan, senior employee, as representatives of the management and the employees, from Union Minister of Labour and Employment Bhupender Yadav at a function held in New Delhi on Thursday.

The Indian Institute of Technology – Madras and Walmart Global Tech have tied up to improve research in new areas of technology. The collaboration will be in the areas of continuing education and projects for corporate social responsibility for the chain stores’ India operations.

** ‘Hope Registry’ to help kidney patients

A “Hope Registry” has been set up to help people who are in need of kidney transplant but unable to get it due to various reasons.

Fr. Davis Chiramel, found, Kidney Federation of India, is the chief patron of the registry. According to Jawad Ahmed, administrator, many people are forced to depend on dialysis because they are unable to do the transplant owing to lack of matching kidneys or other reasons.

Veteran Indian quick Jhulan Goswami on Thursday equalled former Australia spinner Lyn Fullston’s tally of 39 scalps to become the joint-highest wicket taker in Women’s World Cup.

The 39-year-old, playing in her fifth ODI World Cup, achieved the feat against New Zealand in the ongoing tournament when she dismissed wicketkeeper Katey Martin in the 50th over.

** Centre for excellence in non-thermal processing inaugurated at NIFTEM

A centre for excellence in non-thermal processing was inaugurated at National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM),Thanjavur.

It has been established at a cost of ₹10 crore for promoting next generation technologies and meeting global standards in research and academics. The research facility houses advanced food processing machinery for high pressure processing, pulse electric field processing, ultrasound processing, supercritical extraction, cold plasma processing, ultraviolet and pulsed light processing and ozone processing. In addition, with the support of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, the centre will house a food irradiation unit.

In this study published on Mar 4, in NAR Cancer, Sanket Desai, the lead researcher from the group, developed another advanced automated computational tool — Infectious Pathogen Detector (IPD).

The US India Business Council (USIBC) has added three top executives to its India Advisory Council, a premier strategic body comprising a highly influential network of senior India-based executives and thought-leaders committed to growing trade and investment between America and India.

The executives are heads of India operations of 3M, Dell, J&J, and Microsoft. Ramesh Ramadurai, the managing director of 3M India; Alok Ohrie from J&J, Sarthak Ranade from Dell India and Anant Maheshwari from Microsoft India, according to a statement from USIBC.

** Ratnakar Shetty’s autobiography released 

Vengsarkar was speaking at the release function of a book titled On Board: My Years in BCCI, an autobiographical account of Shetty’s experiences as an administrator.

Shetty, a Chemistry professor by profession, went on to be the BCCI’s first Chief Administrative Officer after serving the Mumbai Cricket Association in various capacities. The book was released by Sharad Pawar, the former president of the MCA, BCCI and International Cricket Council.

** ICC Test Rankings: Jadeja becomes world No.1 all-rounder

Jadeja regained the top all-rounder spot from Jason Holder, who had held the position since February 2021

India’s Ravindra Jadeja climbed to the top spot in the ICC Test rankings for all-rounders on Wednesday after his match-winning performance against Sri Lanka in the opening Test in Mohali.

“Ravindra Jadeja’s performance at India’s recent Test win against Sri Lanka in Mohali has catapulted him to the no. 1 position in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings,” the ICC said in a statement.

His unbeaten 175 lifted him up to 17 places from 54th to 37th with the bat and he added nine wickets to move up to 17th with the ball.

His all-round contribution was enough for him to regain the top all-rounder spot from Jason Holder, who had held the position since February 2021.
