** Bhaker and Foroughi win air pistol mixed team gold in President’s Cup

International mixed teams were formed by the ISSF randomly in accordance with the draw
India’s woman pistol ace Manu Bhaker and Iran’s reigning Olympic champion Javad Foroughi won the 10m air pistol mixed team gold at the inaugural ISSF President’s Cup.

The Indo-Iranian pair got the better of the French-Russian duo of Mathilde Lamolle and Artem Chernousov 16-8 in the gold medal match on November 5.

** Akash Kumar finishes with bronze

Debutant Akash Kumar (54kg) signed off with a bronze in the AIBA men’s World boxing championships after going down to Kazakh teenager Makhmud Sabyrkhan in the semifinals here on Thursday.

The 21-year-old Akash lost 5-0 to end the country’s campaign in the competition, where he became the seventh Indian male boxer to win a medal. He also claimed prize money of $25,000.

** Thoothukudi geology professor makes it into top list of international scientists

An assistant professor of Thoothukudi has emerged into the list of top 2 per cent scientists released by a leading publisher Elsevier BV, Stanford University. The Netherland-based publisher updated science-wide author databases of standardised citation indicators- 2021, on October 19.

Dr S Selvam, Assistant Professor in Geology, VO Chidambaram College, who featured for the first time in Elsevier BV ranking, has achieved a rank of 218 under Earth & Environmental Sciences (Geology) and 338 under Environmental Engineering, out of 15720 ranks, with 260 number of citations in the year 2020.

** Two recycling projects from Assam win global awards

The waste-based projects won €10,000 and six months of mentoring

Two waste-based projects in Assam have won an international award for taking their businesses to a higher, greener level.

Shree Guru Plastics and Inside Out, two enterprises based in Guwahati, won €10,000 and six months of business mentoring to help make their ideas a reality.

They were among the 100 entries from across the world for a zero waste city challenge organised by WasteAid, a U.K.-based international NGO between April and July.
