** TN students bag top honours in global business competition

Sarvadh Sathiaram, a class 11 student from Akshar Arbol International School, Chennai was placed first in the global top 20 individual awards which was based on the aggregated scores of the modules of the competition.

Max Meynecke, a student of Kodai International School was placed eleventh and Ayush Samuel Kumar, a class 12 student of Akshar Arbol International School was placed 18th. They all received special certificates.

** UPSC launches helpline for govt. job aspirants from economically weaker section, backward classes

The toll-free number has been launched to assist candidates in filling up application forms or any queries regarding the commission’s examinations/recruitments

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Wednesday launched a toll-free helpline to help government job aspirants from economically weaker sections and backward classes among others.

The commission has opened a helpline, toll-free number- 1800118711, with the objective to assist candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), who have applied or are intending to apply for the commission’s examinations or recruitments, the UPSC said in a statement.

** IIT Kanpur team identifies a novel target to treat prostate cancer

The DLX1 protein is found at elevated levels in prostate cancer patients, the reason why the DLX1 protein has been used as a urine-based biomarker. Now the team of researchers led by Dr. Bushra Ateeq, Professor at the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, IIT Kanpur has found that the DLX1 protein, which is expressed at higher levels in the prostate cancer cells, has a huge role in the growth and development of the tumour and the spread of the cancer to other organs in the body (metastasis).

** ASAP to offer drone pilot training in Ernakulam

With such an arrangement already being tried out on a trial basis in some metro cities and the vista of opportunities offered by drones ever expanding, the State government’s Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) Kerala has expanded its executive programme in micro category drone pilot training to Ernakulam district as well.

“We will open admission as soon as we get the requisite clearances from the authorities concerned for running the course on the campus of the Edappally Higher Secondary School. We have already received over 100 registrations,” said Shanthanu P., district programme manager, ASAP.

** Engineering graduate from Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati shines in stencil art

A 21-year-old engineering graduate from Tirupati is making strides through her stencil art. Jyotsna, who had a penchant towards drawing and fine arts since her childhood, learnt the skills of stencil art by watching training videos on YouTube. 

Although the young woman has an inclination towards arts, she took up engineering due to some issues and completed her BTech with CSE specialisation from Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering.

** Srinivas University’s Charles K C creates world record in largest patriotic portrait by screw art

Charles K C, an undergraduate student pursuing BBA Port, Shipping Management & Logistics at Srinivas University Pandeshwar, has created a world record as largest patriotic portrait by screw art.

Charles, a creative artist, set the new record on June 17, 2021.

He made a portrait of Swami Vivekananda measuring 4 ft × 3 ft size on wooden cardboard using 2,768 half-inche iron screws and acrylic paints.
