Lawrence Pinto, the co-founder of the hugely popular ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore’ Konkani singing reality show, passed away on Tuesday April 27. He was 73.

A well-known Konkani community leader in Kuwait, Lawrence Pinto along with Louis Rodrigues co-founded Gulf Voice of Mangalore (GVOM) in 2008.

First Time in India. Scientists Discover 2.5 million-year-old Dragonfly Fossil : October 2020

First Dragonfly fossil has been discovered by a team of scientists from West Bengal. The discovery was found in Latehar District, Jharkhand.

The fossil belongs to the late Neogene period which dates between 2.5 million and 5 million years ago.

The dragonfly is about 3 cm long and has a wingspan of around 2.5 cm

The research Paper of the findings was published in the October 10th edition in ‘Current Science’ Journal.

Short Film ‘Sleepwalkers’ wins Award at Palm Springs Int’l Short Fest, USA : June 2020

Actress Radhika Apte’s directorial debut short film ‘The Sleepwalkers’ has won the ‘The Best Midnight Short Award’ at Palm Springs International Short Fest, USA.

The short film stars Shahana Goswami and Gulshan Devaiah and is centred on the subject of sleepwalking.

3 Indian Photo-Journalists Won the prestigious Pulitzer Prize : May 2020

Dar Yasin and Mukhtar Khan from Kashmir Valley along with Channi Anand from Jammu, all three of Associated Press (AP) – won the acclaimed award in American Journalism.

Award was for the category ‘ Feature Photography for capturing life in Kashmir’.

Aishwarya Krishnaraj Rai (aka… Aishwariya Rai), the 21-year old Indian beauty was acknowledged as the most beautiful girl in the world and crowned ‘Miss World’ at the 44th edition of the beauty pageant in Sun City, South Africa. November 19th, 1994.
