She has continued to be India’s backbone with the ball in an illustrious career and has also represented the country in 12 Tests and 68 T20Is.

Veteran Indian quick Jhulan Goswami on Thursday equalled former Australia spinner Lyn Fullston’s tally of 39 scalps to become the joint-highest wicket taker in Women’s World Cup.

The 39-year-old, playing in her fifth ODI World Cup, achieved the feat against New Zealand in the ongoing tournament when she dismissed wicketkeeper Katey Martin in the 50th over.

There were four women who represented India at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki. They were Nilima Ghosh, Mary D’Souza Sequeira, Arati Saha and Dolly Nazir. The first two were track athletes and the second two were swimmers. Although they did not win any medals, what was admirable was their enthusiasm, passion to excel and eagerness to see that Indian women did not go unrepresented in world sport’s most important arena.

** Two Kerala nurses win the best vaccinators’ award

Two nurses from the Kerala Health Department have won the best vaccinators’ award instituted for health care workers as part of India’s National Covid Vaccination Programme.

T R Priya, a Grade I Nursing Officer at Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital, and T. Bhavani, a JPHN Grade I at Payyannur taluk hospital in Kannur, have won the honour at the national level. 

The awards constituted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will be given away by the Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi on March 8, the International Women’s Day .

** Kuwait airlift to ‘Operation Ganga’: Largest evacuation ops carried out by India

From ‘Operation Sukoon’ to ‘Operation Safe Homecoming’ and ‘Operation Rahat’, India has successfully evacuated its citizens in war zones over the past three decades.

More than 18,000 Indians have been safely evacuated back to their home country from war-torn Ukraine via special flights over the last one week as the Russian invasion of the country rages on. Under the central government’s ‘Operation Ganga’, 76 flights were sent to Romania, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova to rescue Indian citizens stuck in Ukraine.

On International Women’s Day on Tuesday, President Ram Nath Kovind will confer the Nari Shakti Puraskars to 29 outstanding individuals for the years 2020 and 2021.

The Nari Shakti Puraskar recipients are from fields such as entrepreneurship, agriculture, innovation, social work, education and literature, linguistics, arts and crafts, STEMM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), disability rights, merchant navy and wildlife conservation.

The awardees include social entrepreneur Anita Gupta, organic farmer and tribal activist Ushaben Dineshbhai Vasava, innovator Nasira Akhter, Intel-India head Nivruti Rai, down syndrome affected Kathak Dancer Saylee Nandkishor Agavane, first woman snake rescuer Vanita Jagdeo Borade and mathematician Neena Gupta.

** ISSF World Cup: Rhythm, Anish win gold on final day, India top medals tally

Indian shooters won two medals on the final day of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup 2022 in Cairo, Egypt on Monday.

The Indian team finished on the top of the medals tally with a total of seven medals comprising of four gold, two silver and one bronze.

In the last event of the ISSF World Cup, Rhythm Sangwan and Anish Bhanwala won the 25m rapid fire pistol mixed team gold medal match against Thailand by defeating them 17-7.
