** Two Kerala start-ups bag top prizes in Convergence India Expo

Recognition in pitching competition

Two enterprises supported by the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) have emerged winners in the pitching competition at Convergence India Expo 2022 held in New Delhi on Friday.

Troncart Solutions Pvt Ltd and Riod Logic bagged the first and second prize respectively in the IIT Patna Incubation Centre pitch competition organised at the 29th edition of the three-day expo organised at Pragati Maidan.

Founded in 2018 by Aneez Ahamed, Pratheesh V. Nair and Aneesh Chandran, city-based Troncart offers FLOW metering system, a unique solution to calculate utility readings automatically.

Angamaly-based Riod, founded in 2017, is headed by Akhil Joy and Aneesh P.K. The start-up manufactures and develops IoT sensors along with RIOD Live platform that help sense, monitor, control and aggregate real-time data from fields.

Firm investing ₹3,904.55 crore to expand its Hyderabad operations 

Qualcomm is setting up its second largest campus outside the U.S. in Hyderabad, a 1.572-million sqft facility that is expected to be ready for inauguration by this October.

The California-headquartered tech giant will be investing ₹3,904.55 crore to expand its Hyderabad operations. The investment, to be made over the next five years, will also create employment for about 8,700 software professionals, Industries and IT Minister K.T.Rama Rao’s office said on Tuesday.

** IIT Madras, TCS to launch M. Tech course in Industrial AI

It will be offered online; first cohort of students will be from TCS

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) are jointly launching an M. Tech programme in Industrial Artificial Intelligence.

The 18-month course will be offered online and focus on industrial analytics. It aims at upskilling employees in corporates in the application of AI to industrial problems. The TCS will provide the first cohort of students.

The Intercontinental region is nearly a $3 billion business unit with 10,000 employees, covering over 60 countries across Latin America, India & South Asia, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, said the company in a statement on March 23.

The company also inducted Elie Chaillot, President and CEO, GE Healthcare Intercontinental, to its Board of Directors. Azim Premji, Chairman, Wipro GE Healthcare and Chairman, Wipro Enterprises said, “There is a growing need to improve access to medical technology and precision medicine across India. Elie brings with him deep commercial and global leadership experience and we are delighted to have him on the board of directors.’‘

** Alaska Air selects IBS for air cargo IT solution

BS Software, an IT solutions company headquartered in the capital city, has signed a long-term agreement with Alaska Air Cargo to transform and modernise its air cargo IT ecosystem.

IBS Software will implement its full suite cargo management solution across the air cargo business of Alaska Airlines.

iCargo will digitally transform Alaska Air Cargo’s sales and inventory, cargo terminal operations, air mail handling and revenue accounting, and mobile applications. It will also enable the airline to have an end-to-end view of its air cargo value chain activities and provide important operational insights across the entire network.

** Indian-origin expert helming first 4G network on Moon for NASA

Indian-origin Nishant Batra working as Chief Strategy and Technology Officer (CSTO) at smartphone maker Nokia is helping NASA to build the first ever cellular network on the Moon.

Batra joined Nokia as CSTO and a member of the Nokia Group Leadership Team in January 2021.

He holds an MBA from INSEAD, a master’s degree in telecommunications and a master’s degree in computer science from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and a bachelor’s degree in computer applications from Devi Ahilya University in India.

** First of its kind State Cyber Crime Investigation Centre set up in Tamil Nadu

It will deal with cases pertaining to organised cyber crimes, ransomware attacks and cryptocurrency frauds, among others

The Cyber Crime Wing of Tamil Nadu Police is setting up a first of its kind State Cyber Crime Investigation Centre at its headquarters, to deal exclusively with cases like organised cyber crimes that have international ramifications and require intra-country investigation, ransomware attacks, cryptocurrency frauds.  

“We already have cyber crime police stations in districts and cities, which handle investigation into routine cyber offences including phishing, vishing, morphing, extortion and cyber stalking from individual complainants,” Additional Director General of Police, Cyber Crime, Amresh Poojari told The Hindu.
