Indian Mountaineer Bhawna Dehariya Scales Australia’s Highest Mountain : March 2020

Bhawna Dehariya of Madhya Pradesh, successfully scaled the summit at Mount Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest mountain peak on March 10th, 2020 to co-incide with Holi.

Last year she scaled Mount Kilimanjaro on November 27th, 2019 to co-incide with Diwali.

First Indian Woman Jockey wins Ladies World Championship, Poland : 2014

Rupa Narpat Singh (aka..Rupa Singh) became the First Indian Woman Jockey to win the HH Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship at Sluzewiec Horse race track in Warsaw, Poland. Sunday- August 24th, 2014

The 48 kg – Rupa Singh participated against a strong field of 10 international jockeys to make her winning debut in the 13th and penultimate round.

It was her first race outside India on the back of an Arabian horse and without whips being used according to the rules. She rode Nicolas who covered the 1600 metres distance 1.56.60 seconds. Andrezej Wojtowicz was the trainer of the winning horse Nicholas.

The event was a part of the HH Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s ‘Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival’.

The Chennai jockey Rupa Singh is the sister of Hyderabad jockey Ravinder Singh.

Indian Shooter No.1 at ISSF World Cup, Men’s 50-metre Pistol : April 2016

Jitu Rai won the Gold and became World No.1 at ISSF World Cup(International Shooting Sport Federation) in the Men’s 50m pistol category held in Bangkok. Friday April 01st, 2016

Jitu Rai participates in both the 10-metre and 50-metre pistol shooting events.

Jitu Rai scored 191.3 points and claimed the Gold by beating China’s Pang Wei, former World and Olympic champion who scored 186.5. Wang Zhiwei of China, also an Olympic medallist, claimed the 3rd position with 165.8 final score.

Jitu Rai was born on August 25th, 1987 in Sankhuwa Sabha,Nepal and is an Indian citizen. He is the 4th brother of 5 siblings.

Rai joined the Indian Army in 2006 and is a Naib-Subedar in ’11 Gorkha Rifles’ and resides in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh).

Indian Origin Spinner plays for New Zealand National Cricket Team : 2013

Inderbir Singh Sodhi (aka. Ish Sodhi) made his debut for the New Zealand National Cricket team (nicknamed ‘BlackCaps’) against Banglasdesh during the New Zealand tour of Bangladesh . October 2013.

He was born on October 31st, 1992 in Ludhiana, Punjab(India) to Rajbir Singh Sodhi and mother Simrat Sodhi. The Sodhis migrated to Auckland in 1992 when Ish was only 4 years old.

At an early age he was enrolled in Papatoetoe Cricket Club, South Auckland . Ish Sodhi developed into a right arm leg spin bowler and began his cricketing career representing the Northern Districts.

Leander Adrian Paes won the bronze medal* in the Men’s single tennis at the Summer Olympics Games 1996 / Atlanta Olympics in USA. August 31st,1996.

Paes shared the podium with Andre Agassi(3 Grand Slam Winner)and Sergi Bruguera(2 Grand Slam Winner)

Leander Paes, Indian Professional Tennis Player is considered one of the best doubles and mixed doubles players in the world.

The 23 year-old was India’s first athlete since 1952 to win in individual sports . Leander Paes won for India after a long spell of 44 years where India had been without an individual medal. In 1952 K.D. Jadhav won a bronze medal in wrestling.

He began playing tennis at the age of 5 and in 1985 joined Britannia Amritraj Tennis Academy in Madras(now Chennai) where he was coached by Dave O’Meara.

Leander Paes was born in Calcutta(now Kolkata)on June 17th,1973 to Dr.Vece Paes(National Hockey Bronze medallist- Munich Olympics 1972) and mother Jennifer Paes(Captained the Indian Basket Ball team – Asian Basketball Championship 1980). He currently lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

First Indian Cueist to win Gold at Snooker ‘ The World Games 2013 ‘ . July 2013 .

Aditya Mehta , Asian Snooker Champion and top ranked Indian became the first Indian cueist to become ‘The World Games 2013’ Champion in the Snooker Event on Tuesday – July 30th, 2013 in the quadrennial 5-day tournament held  in Cali, Columbia.

Aditya was in top form as he toppled the pre-tournament favourite Liang Wenbo of China in the final with a thumping 3-0 win to clinch the Gold medal.

This is India’a first World Games Gold medal since the legendary shuttler Prakash Padukhone’s Bronze in the inaugral edition of the ‘World Games’ in 1981 and only the second for India in the history of the World Games.
